The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) is set to employ 2,460 workers in the two-section Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project from Dar es Salaam to Makutupora.
These jobs are in addition to the more than 115,000 jobs already provided by the contractor in sections one to six.
Of the 2,460 jobs, the implementation is in phases, with more than 500 employees already employed in the 2024/25 financial year and 272 employees expected to be employed in the 2025/26 financial year, with TRC continuing to recruit up to 2,460 employees.
As the implementation of the Corporation's official job creation continues, a total of 115,000 jobs from the contractor have benefited 115,000 Tanzanians, including youth with Grade 7 education and other levels of education in various fields.
An analysis of the 115,000 jobs from the contractor is that 35,000 jobs are direct and more than 80,000 are indirect, including various groups such as food vendors, bodabodas, bajajis and service providers for various communication companies such as mocha, phone lines, etc.
